Alternate Modes Of Underwater Consciousness (AMUC)The Neon Sleeping DeviceElectronicLP (10 tracks or 35 minutes)Cerebral, proggy electronic with all-over-the-place dynamics and drunken AI. Blake GirndtBanana TusksIndie, ExperimentalLP (10 tracks or 35 minutes)It's a surrealist ouroboros of songs presented in order of creation with the last becoming the first because it was my favorite. I played all the instruments and sang. Used an assortment of computer, dedicated recorder, plugin synths, electronic drums, guitars, and bass.United States of AmericaMassachusettsMarlboroughhttps://blakegirndt.bandcamp.com/album/banana-tusks
CrujienteFive Fresh FlavorsRockEP (5 tracks or 20 minutes)We made a 5 track rock ep that spans from really heavy to really melodic. Jimmy Corbett has been someone Felipe Collazo (me) has been around in the local music scene for quite a while. We first got to know each other when are bands Maybrick and Monkey Knife Fight would share gigs. Since then Jimmy has also recorded some Monket Knife Fight records because he is an incredible sound engineer. So with his guitar skills, progamming and sequencing skills and sound engineering skills i knew it was a no brainer to reach out to him for this years challenge. Within 3 days he sent me 3 fully fleshed out tracks for me to write lyrics and melodies too. The last two Sundays were spent recording vocals and mixing and that was that. We made this project for the good of mankind.United States of AmericaMassachusettsLawrence / Littletonhttps://crujiente.bandcamp.com/album/five-fresh-flavors

Jim BouchardThere is always hopeFolk, AmbientLP (10 tracks or 35 minutes)This was a bit of a grab bag of different ideas, recordings of songs I wrote decades ago and needed to document, some improvisations based on chanting and incorporating that into some song ideas. These were done for my brother Albert as he wants me to record some stuff for him. I needed to work on harmonizing with myself for that, which I needed to work on, so this was a helpful challenge to get all that corralled togetherUnited States of AmericaMassachusettsBostonhttps://jimbouchard.bandcamp.com/album/there-is-always-hope
Justice Eats TreesIncubate 4: my day today is going to be a disaster today.Pop, ExperimentalLP (10 tracks or 35 minutes)I made some ambient adjacent messes and one suck-core pop song mostly about murder dreams. Oude KaasFragments of an Intact MirrorExperimental, RockLP (10 tracks or 35 minutes)My main constraint was that I would only work with what I had in my home studio (no live drum tracking). I also wanted to stick to one DAW (Ableton),because last year, switching among DAWs for different parts of the process was a huge pain. I set out to make a stripped down set of art songs using piano and voice. It didn't work. I followed the sounds and ended up in my usual dark experimental rock-electronica territory. My objective was to jumpstart my creative process, and while I only (haha) completed about 45 minutes of music out of my goal of 100m, the seeds of dozens more songs and musical ideas have been planted.United States of AmericaMassachusettsBostonhttps://oudekaas.bandcamp.com/album/fragments-of-an-intact-mirror-demo

The Wisdom KingsTichborne's ElegieMetal, DarkSingle (1 track or 5 minutes)Getting back to the riff for this one. The lyrics are adapted from a poem written by Chidiock Tichborne on the eve of his execution, condemned to be eviscerated, hanged, drawn and quartered for his role in the Babington Plot in 1586, to kill Queen Elizabeth. Less about history, and more exploring feelings of isolation, and being trapped in a role you cannot escape.United States of AmericaMassachusettsBostonhttps://alonetone.com/lboe/playlists/tichborne's-elegie
TotoRobynindustry8Electronic, SynthLP (10 tracks or 35 minutes)This was my first album ever - only been doing electronic music for a little over a year now. Walter Sickert & The Army of Broken ToysPermanent FireRock, DarkLP (10 tracks or 35 minutes)17 Years of RPM and Counting A note from Edrie: The first RPM challenge started what would become the artistic direction that we’ve now spent 17 years traveling. Walter and I met during the time of the 1st RPM challenge February has always been a time of renewal and change for us. Our daughter Wednesday, now 7, was born in February. We’ve premiered plays, moved houses, lost jobs, got new jobs, been on tour, witnessed weddings, shoveled feet of snow, mourned losses; and yet, we’ve released an album every February every year of the challenge. No matter what February has brought – we’ve made time to make music Two years ago, the world was just hearing the beginnings of what will likely define the lived-experience for all of humanity for a generation. Our way of being in the world, of creating, of supporting ourselves, of fellowship changed drastically. We still made music. No more getting together in the same physical space to create. We still made music. No more hugs or high-fives or smoke-circles or bodies packed together exuding energy. We still made music. We’ve lost and gained so much this year and… WE STILL MADE MUSIC! Walter has continued BUNKER BUDS, a daily dystopian talk show dedicated to bringing joy in to the often bleak loneliness of quarantine. They have touched thousands of folks with hundreds of episodes dedicated to helping people see the good and the light of artistic fellowship. Let Yourself Love Yourself. PERMANENT FIRE is our 17th RPM offering. It’s a marker in time, a symbol of what we lost and also what we’ve gained. It points to our North Star, the time when we will all be together again, somewhere between starshine and clay. PERMANENT FIRE is dedicated to the last 17 years of RPMs and to the people, places, and things that have made us who we are today. Thank you RPM! Thank you for the space to create and for the reminder that no matter what obstacles the world tossed in our way, we made music.
